in Christ Jesus.

Happy Thanksgiving week SISters!

I am so thankful that you are joining me in the journey of the 8 week Real Challenge of learning Scripture together!

I am going to be real here and must admit that the past nine months have been personally difficult for me and I know there have been times when I have been thankless instead of thankful. Early this month while doing morning devotions with my daughter, Molly, we read, “The New Testament has many examples of people who gave thanks to God. Paul, the apostle, was one such man. There were many times in his life where he could have grumbled about what was happening to him. He was thrown in prison, shipwrecked, and stoned! But he wrote this verse. God wants us to give thanks to Him no matter what happens in our lives.”

Molly’s eyes got big as I read this verse. Then, she shared that she had just begun learning this verse in Children’s Church. I knew this was no coincidence. God had heard my grumbling and wanted me to be grateful. Although some things in life are not the way I want them, they are the way God wants them. So, I am committing that each time something comes my way that I see as a thorn I will see as an opportunity to be thankful. Will you join me?

Giving thanks in all circumstances,

Let’s identify and get rid of the sin that trips us up in life.

Be determined to allow the Word of God to guide our daily lives. We can and will do this!

I am so excited to see this verse come to life as we run the race TOGETHER!

and mighty is the army that obeys his command.\The day of the LORD is great; it is dreadful. Who can endure it?

The SIS WOW comes to us via SIS, Poet Psalmist from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

She shares: “In 2005 I ended up impossible to live and the same time paralyzed head to toe. I was super sick and doctors wanted to take me off life support. I was in a coma. My mum said, “Jesus’ will.”

The next day I open my eyes. Mum and intercessors were reading out loud the Word of GOD. The LORD touched me through the Word of GOD. I woke up listening to GOD’s Word. Months in the hospital doctors said at least 1 year I would have to be there. I was only there 3 months then months in rehab till I could go home. I could walk still but I was weak. No longer paralyzed! Slowly miracles happened. One after another! 1 year recover fully.

Then, I attended Bible College in 2007. GOD is faithful. I recite psalms as Poet. Joel 2 :11 is seeing GOD’S power in His Word. My own story witnessing His greatness.”

Blessed to be in His army with you Sisters,

Ephesians 5:1-2 GNT

Since you are God’s dear children, you must try to be like him. Your life must be controlled by love, just as Christ loved us and gave his life for us as a sweet-smelling offering and sacrifice that pleases God.

Our Sisters in Scriptures Word of the Week comes to us via SIS, Cher Marie Silvius. She shares:

“Family is a field to grow in. Where children grow up and parents grow patient.
Where fathers grow in forgiveness and mothers grow in maturity and love, where sons grow in self-control and daughters in discernment and this is what He means — For us to stretch and dig down and reach out and for family to grow us full in the faith.”

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God… Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless… Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth…” Ephesians 5 and 6

Growing in God’s ways with you,

SIS, Kim Bookmyer shares: ”Recently God has been really working at getting me to meditate on the word COURAGE and He’s doing it in some very creative ways! A few weeks ago on a Friday, I went to a luncheon concerning the Heartbeat Bill and listened to three ordinary women speak about a bill that could help save 26,000 babies a year in Ohio. They spoke boldly and courageously of how the Lord had been moving in their own lives and in the lives of others. The Lord was convicting me of their passion and boldness for speaking the Truth about Jesus in the political arena.

Then when I went home, there was a package in the mail. It was from The Voice of the Martyrs with a map of the world showing the persecuted Church and a copy of the book Tortured for Christ by Richard Wurmbrand. I had been given a card by a friend earlier in the week to mail to get this information and thought “Boy, that was fast!” Later I realized that I had NEVER sent the postcard as it was still in my car! The package came without me ordering it. God’s timing is perfect and mysterious!

That same Friday, I went on a date with my husband to see the movie “The Help”. The storyline deals with one brave white female journalist who works with some African-American women during the Civil Rights era to share their stories of what it was like to be the help in white homes in the south. Again, all in the same day, I am convicted by the Lord of the courage that these women had to speak forth the truth in the midst of racial persecution.

Well, the next Friday, we were with a group of people with whom we had traveled to Israel earlier this summer. After a wonderful time of reflection, one of the pastors spoke a blessing over us before we left. Tears flowed down my face as he spoke a blessing of courage that would come from the filling of the Holy Spirit giving us a supernatural boldness.

It seems within these few weeks, I have had opportunities to speak forth the truth about Jesus every day. Sometimes, I take them. Others, I miss. I am learning that it cannot be of my own strength but out of an overflow of love for God and love for others. This is not something that we can muster up on our own but it must come from spending time with Jesus.

Last Friday evening, I went to the Findlay High School football game against Toledo Whitmer with a crowd of 8000. Sadness consumed me because I thought of how excited we as Americans can get over the game of football and how unexcited we can be about Jesus. I was sitting there, talking to the Lord about it. At halftime, I could tell the band was spelling something out on the field. As I looked more closely, I could hardly believe my eyes when I read C-O-U-R-A-G-E! God sure does have a funny sense of humor that He wants me to take seriously.

So the questions become… How does this ordinary woman spend time with Jesus? Will I be one who will speak forth truth in the face of persecution? Will others know I have been with Jesus?”

SIS WOW 10/3/11: Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT

Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.

As we enter October the fall season in the midwest is definitely upon us. I look out my window and notice the leaves turning beautiful colors signifying the change. Along with the new season we have entered in weather, I have undoubtedly entered a new season of life. Many of the “changing of the leaves” are ones I have absolute no say in or control over.

While reading Ecclesiastes 3:1 in different versions the NLT version of it reminded me that although I have no control of the changes taking place “Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.”

Sisters in Scriptures is a place for females of all ages to come together and fix their eyes upon God’s Word. It has been a couple of years since this group started and we have become a community of over 5000 women across the world.
This week I ask you to join together to encourage your sisters a step further beyond to memorizing & meditating on the the NLT version of Ecclesiastes 3:1. Please go to the www.sistersinscriptures.com blog page or our facebook page to share the season you are in, how you see or are trusting God in it and allow your SISters to know you and pray for you. I look forward to joining you in another step of our journey together.

Your SISter, Katie
